St. Mark's FC
St Mark's runs a Saturday morning football club for young people aged 13-18. It is a lot of fun, completely free, and attended by around 30-50 young people each week!
Contact Tom Nixon if you would like to know more.
League
The club currently has a team in the London Saturday Youth Football League, at U18 level. The team is currently doing very well, and we intend to have an awards evening at the end of the season - more details to follow shortly!
Where and when
Matches take place most Saturdays from October to May at the league central venue on Tooting Bec Common. The club also holds open training sessions for all young people at Kennington Park. During the season these take place on Saturday mornings when there are no matches, from 10:30 to 1pm. During the summer break there are regular weekly sessions on Saturday mornings, alongside occasional Friday evening sessions. Map and directions to the Kennington Park pitches
Background
The football club was started in April 2008 by Ambrose and Paulson, our Ugandan gap year workers. It quickly grew to around 25 young people with a regular Saturday morning game in Kennington Park.
Over the next year, the club grew to around 50 young people, with training every single Saturday and regular friendlies against other local teams and youth clubs. The club has really been made successful by the enthusiasm of the young people - this clearly fills a genuine need in our local community, and many of the young people have made good friends with each other and come along every single week.
From September 2009, St Mark's has had two teams playing in the London Saturday Youth Football League, an FA-registered league based at Tooting Bec Common. Both of the teams have made a very successful start to the season, winning matches and holding their own against some of the top youth teams in London.
Long may the success continue!!
